Currituck Beach Lighthouse
A day-trip to the north of the Outer
Banks is the village of Corolla, located
15 miles north of Duck. There, on
December 1, 1875 the beacon of the
Currituck Beach Lighthouse filled the
remaining "dark spot" on the North
Carolina coast between Cape Henry
light to the north and Bodie Island to
the south.   Fee charged

Two women were in Ocean Sands,
Corolla.  They were walking around
the lake on their way to the beach
when a frog called out to them and
said: “Help me, ladies!  I am a real
estate broker who, through a curse,
has been transformed into a frog.  If
one of you will kiss me, I’ll be
returned to my former state!”

One woman grabbed the frog, and
stuffed it inside her purse.

The other woman said, “Didn’t you
hear him? If you kiss him, he’ll turn
into a real estate broker!”

The second woman replied, “Sure,
but these days a talking frog is worth
more than a real estate broker!”

Whalehead Club - Corolla
In 1922 a Northern Industrialist Edward Collings Knight, Jr and his bride
Marie Louise LeBel took up winter residency in their newly acquired
Lighthouse Club and began construction of a 21,000 sq.ft. private
residence.  Three years and $385,000 later Edward and Marie Louise
moved into their "cottage" on the sound. It was unlike any structure that
local folks had ever seen or even imagined.

The home was abandoned and sat empty for 25 years until Currituck
County purchased the property.  The county has painstakingly restored
the property to how it looked in 1925.

Now when you visit you can enjoy the Art Nouveau architecture, Tiffany
lighting fixtures, copper shingled roof, yellow exterior and five stately
chimneys.  The property has seen hurricanes and northeasters, witnessed
a series of owners, and entertained hundreds of visitors from 1925 to
1970.

In 1940, the second owner, Ray T. Adams, renamed his new investment,
the Whalehead Club, leasing it to the U.S. Coast Guard during World
War II and entertaining guests and waterfowl enthusiasts when the war
was over.   In 1992, Currituck County purchased the badly deteriorated
Whalehead Club in the interest of historic preservation and has spent
$35M in restoration.

            Avoiding the Crowds

The Outer Banks is a wonderful place that, because of it's design and
type of lodging offered (no high rises), doesn't attract the massive
crowds you expect from other beaches. However, single lane roads will
cause some backups on check-in days during certain times - especially
if you are traveling Northbound to ...

Southern Shores, Duck and Corolla.  However, if you follow some
simple rules, you can avoid a lot of hassles and significantly reduce your
travel time:

1. Consider a Sunday to Sunday rental (versus Saturday to Saturday).
The check ins are lighter on Sunday.

2. Consider arriving early or late.  If you arrive to coincide when your
rental becomes available, you should expect a bit of travel delay as you
move down the road to your rental.

3. A good idea for check-in, is to arrive early (before 1pm), and spend
some time in a restaurant, at the beach or other destination. Go play
Putt-putt or enjoy a movie (if the weather isn't cooperating).  This will
enable you to get where you need to go.  You can then check-in at
your designated time without sitting in traffic.

4. Consider checking out early (before 7am) or later (leaving and then
going and doing something while you wait for traffic to subside.

If you are used to going to bigger beaches, our traffic is minor.
However, following these tips may make your travel more enjoyable.

Real Estate tips... did you know?

If you ask a Real Estate Agent about a listing, they actually represent the seller.
However, if you ask them to be your Buyer’s agent (even for a day) – then they represent your interests.

There are 3 types of Agent; a Buyer’s agent – who represents the buyer, a Seller’s agent – who represents the Seller, and a Dual Agent
who represents both a Buyer and Seller.

A Dual Agency is also created when your Buyer’s agent is showing you a listing from their own firm.
When in doubt ask !!!
